Be Still.. Just Drink and Chill to good music

Introducing the fresh kid on the block – Still Bar of 22 Dempsey Road. This was where Oosh was, and now it has been taken over by one management to be split into four f&b outlets. There must be a bar in there… and there is. The Still bar.

A similar concept to Oosh, Still bar is a more intimate space with the popular al fresco seating. It serves bar bites, oysters on certain days and your drinks.

On every night, there would be something to entertain. On mondays, there are dancers. And the rest of the days (here goes my part)

I dont know any duo more suitable for each other. I don’t know any duo with more personality. I also don’t know any other worth beguiling my night with.

Saturday – The Charm & Claire Concoction (Unofficial again)

One can play with puns, no? Especially if you C the Connection with Charm & Claire. Ok enough. Too sweet to miss, these two.

Karaoke Frenzy for Town Council’s Appreciation Dinner

Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council’s Appreciation Dinner was a hearty affair organised for ministers, employees, memebers and distinguished guests which took place at Orchid Country Club.

The gathering’s entertainment was provided by Red Kite starting with our emcee, Charissa Seet. Clad in a simple black dress, Charissa was a bubbly host who took her audience through the evening’s programme which included speeches by ministers including Mr. Teo Chee Hean and many others, presentation of awards and several entertainment segments that ended with a hearty karaoke session.

Local songbird Imelda Teo set the mood of the appreciation dinner with her rendition of songs which spanned several lanugages including English, Mandarin, Hokkien and Malay.

Finally came the karaoke session – the ‘hottest’ segment of the night. It kickstarted with the ministers including Mr. Micheal Palmer who graced the stage to perform a song for their fellow town council members which set the crowd in a karaoke frenzy as they sung merrily along.

Charissa Seet (emcee) posts for a photograph with Mr. Michael Palmer.

Kaspar & Belinda’s Suburbian Wedding Party

Kaspar & Belinda celebrated their holy matrimony like no other. Apart from holding it in a cosy setting at Sentosa’s Suburbia, there was a host of Chinese and Swedish traditions held on to through the night. Of course, a touch of general Western with the bouquet throwing, the DJ party and the cuisine.

Relishing all things Swedish, absurd and traditional, the night was filled with sing-a-longs to Swedish songs and the tradition of men lining up to present a rose to the bride. The highlight was of course, the fake ABBAs, dressed in skin-tight white apparel, with handmade platforms, blonde wigs and shimmering hats.

The did Dancing Queen and Waterloo, representing the music moguls of their country. The highly unsynchronised dance moves were unnoticed as much attention was given to the now unrecognisable gentlemen who were earlier in their suits and ties. Flashes flickered and laughter filled the air.. they set the mood for party, and DJ Nicky took them through the night of happiness, love and friendship.

Singapore Char Siew Baos plays their part for Japan in IndoChine CARES

IndoChine CARES is an IndoChine’s initiative in collaboration with Red Cross Society to raise funds for the survivors of the recent disaster that struck Japan. Held on the grounds of IndoChine’s The Forbidden City, funds were raised through an auction which included paintings by famous Asian artists, travel packages and Singapore Char Siew Baos!

Just pulling your leg about the last one… Singapore Char Siew Baos was the local band who played their part in IndoChine CARES through their honorary performance!

With spirited vocals, guitars and saxophone, Singapore Char Siew Baos is a beautiful blend of musicians who filled The Forbidden City with an evening of soothing tunes, and towards the end, rather feisty covers such as Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.

With Jacob (guitarist) leading on vocals for the cover of Money Can’t Buy Me Love, SCSB started the evening with a list of lighthearted songs.

Ruby (lead vocalist) revealed some of her thick and smooth vocals with the heartwarming cover of Close To You, originally by The Carpenters. With her strong yet gentle vocal projection of the classic Carpenter hit, it was one of my favorite covers for the evening.

Younger folks would definitely know how to appreciate this cover of Lucky.

Ruby demonstrates one of her most impressive vocal covers in Dream, originally by The Cranberries. Somehow, the song also matched with the architectural mystic of The Forbidden City.

Jason (guitarist) certainly gave the recent R&B hit, Billionaire, a local nudge, while Dominic (saxophonist) adapted it into such a classy tune with his saxophone, an instrument which seldom finds its place among local bands like SCSB.

The auction was a huge success! IndoChine and Red Kite sincerely thank Singapore Char Siew Baos for their generous volunteering time. We truly hope we made a difference for the survivors of the Japanese disaster.

Ganbette, Japan!

Esplanade – Hari Raya Celebrations

On 9 and 10 September, Rima & friends and Asila & Gang, brought to the crowd some lively English acoustic numbers, mixed with some Hari Raya favourites. Asila’s secret weapon was the Hindi songs though, they got the bangladeshis dancing.
